Hey, don’t let it go to waste

Other than being a complete glutton the past 2 weeks while tapering, getting fat, feeling shitty..stepping on the scale, feeling niggles and nits, and going pretty bonkers.....you know all that normal taper shit, I should be good to go. Not nearly as enthused to run this year, as I was last. Maybe that's a good thing. I'm more enthused about getting it over with and on to the next thing.

"Done, I’m done; I’m on to the next one

Hey, don’t let it go to waste
I love it but , I hate that taste
Weight keeping me down"

It's kind of a big deal to me. Dinky little race, and it's not a 100, but it's been my goal for the past 2 years. Feels silly to write about a 50k in NJ being my 'A' race. But, I haven't gone more than a few hours without thinking about it....for pretty much the past 2 years.

Average finish time is ~7:21:43 (in 2010) - that'd be nice. I'd be nice to say I did better than 'most'. Considering I did a shitty 8:07 last year. No real goals though other than maybe finally licking the hypoglycemia race nutrition thing. I had a lot of help this year, from way too many people to list. Thanks guys! I'm sure I'll think of every one of you over the 7hr race.

People in Colorado laugh when I tell them the race is tough. It is. trust me. East coast trails blow. No 'long' grinding climbs, but, the course is like doing hill repeats up and down a scree field covered in leaves for 32mi. the CR is something like 5hrs. I don't know if anyones broken 5hrs? (Rick do you have the data on this?)

We got some other folks racing this weekend as well! Good luck to everyone!

  1. Who the fuck cares what others think? It matters to you and you're running the race. That's all that matters. 50ks can be hard as hell. Sometimes a lot harder than slogging through a 100. Get after it. Stay on the fuel and enjoy the PR.

  2. Leaves are shitty, but fun. The hardest race I've ever done was my first 50K in Texas. That shit was hard. Have fun, then come join me on the train to fatville!

  3. You'll do great- since last time you've been training specifically and for some reason even 5 days up there in CO made it feel like having an extra lung the first couple of days back here. The MOMA reverse trails do annoyingly slow one down because of the downward rocky parts though.
